Metal Slug AnthologyReviewed by Norman Canseco
The games are arcade-perfect versions of what we all know and love from the Metal Slug legacy. All except Metal Slug 6, this was never released in the U.S. prior to this collection. Being able to play a game that was previously exclusive to the Japanese gaming populous and crazy import nuts is a big plus for this game. It of course has the infinite lives thing going for it, which beats having to constantly pop quarters into a machine. On the flipside of that, it takes some of the challenge of the games out because you know that no matter how sloppy you go at it you'll beat it with unlimited lives. While this is only a minor bump in the game's road to glory, it misses on other points. The control schemes available are mostly useless. Only a few of the options work well with the fast-paced action on the screen. The analog stick is too sensitive for diagonal shots so you must compensate for this shortcoming. Metal Slug Anthology gets a medium Evo Factor from me. One, for the fact that it's another compilation that includes games most Metal Slug fans already own in a previously purchased collection. In contrast, the ability to get together with a friend and rampage through opposition filled levels is more than enough to entice Metal Slug lovers and newcomers to purchase this gathering of one of the greatest gaming franchises in history.
