Rampage: Total DestructionReviewed by Jonathan Levy
Rampage: Total Destruction is the latest in the Rampage lineup. The point of the game has remained the same from the original game. You're a mutated monster destroying cities. There has never really been any plot to these games and it has remained so. Midway has continually updated Rampage, but his time the graphics have received a big boost and there are a total of 40 playable characters to choose from. There are a total of 4 different modes of play, Campaign (1-2 players), King of the City (1-4 players), King of the World (1-4 players), and Timed Run (1-4 players). Campaign mode is obviously the story mode to progress through the game to unlock power-ups and more characters. King of City is the mode to play with friends and try to score the most points. King of the World is a version of King of the City where you are trying to win more than half the cities. In Timed Run, you only have some much time to destroy a city block; any remain time carries on to the next block. As an extra added bonus, they include the original Rampage (1-3 players) and Rampage: World Tour (1-3 players). The controls are fairly simple, you use the analog stick to move around and the A button is your punch. Swinging the remote to the left or the right is a swing attack. Swinging the remote downward is your smash attack. Unfortunately, I seem to have problems using the smash attack consistently with ease. Other than my one problem the controls are easy to get the hang of. To play the classic Rampage games, you turn the controller sideways like using the remote for Virtual Console games; however, unlike virtual console games the classic control will not work for the classic Rampage games. While the Rampage: Total Destruction is a great game, and is really fun, it's a rehash of all the old Rampage games. Thus the game will get a bit repetitious, but if you're in the mood to the crush and destroy, this game is perfect. Also it only costs $30 making it well worth the price.
