WarhawkReviewed by John Burrell Jr.
Creating a sequel to an adored piece of media entertainment is hard to do. There are a lot of things to live up to (just ask Rockstar and Bungie). Warhawk was one of these admired pieces of art from the Playstation One early days. Bringing it from the PS One to the PS3 to continue the conflict between the Eucadian and Chernovans was a huge undertaking. In fact, it caused the single player to be cut from the game; but don’t fret, the game is still an offline and online multiplayer masterpiece. Zooming around in your Warhawk jet, shooting down enemies is only the beginning of the fun in this title. The absence of a single player is one of this title’s largest shortcomings. This is compounded by the fact that the single player trailers showed you fighting massive airships which looked pretty freaking sweet along with the crazy amounts of ammo you need to pump in a guy with certain weapons. Also, during air combat you can’t parachute out of your plane. All of that said, the good ridiculously outweighs the bad. Offline allows you to play with up to 3 of your friends on teams or every man/woman for themselves. Admittedly the action isn’t as crazy as 16 vs. 16 online but crazy enough to get a kick out of with a couple of your boys. Now to Warhawk’s meat and potatoes: the online mode. You start off by customizing everything: your character, warhawk, and personal symbol. You can also customize your controls on your soldier and every vehicle you will be able to control. The vehicles are also a large part of the game on and offline. There are three ways to get around tank, jeep, and of course the game’s namesake warhawk jet . The tank is used to blow away crap and it does just that, the jeep is a speedy transport for troops with trusty gun turret on the back. Finally, the one thing any Eucadian or Chernovan soldier should not be without: a warhawk. These are the coolest and most difficult to master of the three vehicles with its multiple weapon pick ups and high maneuverability. Master these and you’ll all but rule the ranks. Ground combat is a more of what you would expect from an online third person shooter. Sniper rifles, grenades, and flamethrowers are strewn throughout the size adjustable 5 stages. Play modes include Your standard Deathmatch , Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Nodes. Rooms are easy to navigate and ranked games are marked in blue. The ranked games help you to advance in ranking and unlock new skins for your character and new colors for your warhawk. Throw in the jeeps and tanks and you got Pandemonium 2007.

We give every reviewed game an Evolution Factor score that gauges the longevity of a title. Warhawk, with its strong online multiplayer gets a High Evo Factor from this reviewer. This was also the first full game that was downloadable through the Playstation Store, and if they can keep up downloadable content to keep the game fresh it will be around for a long time.
