Rugby 2005Reviewed by Thomas Sanchez
Rugby 2005 was an interesting game to review for me because I have never played rugby in my life. When I picked it up, I had little idea about what I was getting myself into. Rugby is a sport that combines American Football, Soccer and Hockey all in one. This is not a game for the weak. These guys are tough. They go out and play with little or no protection and literally tackle and wrestle each other down, all trying to go for an oblong ball. Now obviously there is more to it than that, but that is one tough game to play. Luckily for you, EA Sports Rugby 2005 brings the game into your home without having to be subject to any serious injuries. Even if you don't know the rules, the practice sessions in this game help out a lot. It's a fast paced game with tons of big hits. My brother and I popped the game in, disregarding the booklet and only looking at the button configuration, and started to play thinking we were going to run through it, winning every game. Boy, were we wrong! We ended up getting our butts handed to us 42-0 in the first game. And that was on easy. After three games of getting beat down, we finally got the hang of it and started dishing out the losses ourselves. It was the most fun I've had with a new sports game for as long as I can remember. Long time rugby fans were probably waiting for their sport to be recognized with a solid game. Well now they have it. Rugby 2005 contains tons of licensed clubs and international heavyweights, all new graphics technology and EA Sports Creation Zone where you can go into full detail and create the ultimate rugby warrior. Rugby 2005 is a solid rental for anyone, but unless you're a huge fan of this crazy sport, it's nothing more than that. Definitely a solid sports title and EA continues its quest to be the king of all sports games. Seven out of ten for a very solid and entertaining sports game.
