Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had the hook shot, Magic Johnson had the show time passes, and Larry Bird had his three-point shooting. All of these things were what made them recognizable on the court as the individual superstar players they were. This year, EA Canada took special care to make the stars of today play on the PS2 like their real life counter parts with the new Freestyle Superstar feature. This and more was added to the newest edition in the NBA Live series.

The Freestyle Superstar feature is the most dynamic addition to Live in a few years. There are six different types of Freestyle Superstars: Highflyer (Tracy McGrady), Playmaker (Steve Nash), Scorer (Iverson), Sharpshooter (Ray Allen), Stopper (Shaq), and Power Player (Ben Wallace). This helps the teams with dominate players play like it. One of the most anticipated and most loved parts of last years game was the addition of the All-Star Weekend activities. This year they have taken the dunk contest and the three point contest online to give you even more ways to prove your dominance to the rest of the country. The exclusion of personal profiles was a bit of a disappointment. In Madden, this feature allowed a player to track wins and losses. I would also like to see a two player Dynasty Mode in next year’s game, so that I can take my team to the finals against my brother.

This was a great game, but I would have to give it a medium Evo Factor. Next year there will definitely be another version of the game, so there will not be a need to own this copy for long. The second reason is the exclusion of the personal profiles and two player dynasties. It was a great year to love NBA Live, and it's looking even better for next year with all the EA Sports games sporting the ESPN logo.
