Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin for the DS is the newest game in the Castlevania series. While it plays just like most of the other games, in Portrait of Ruin you now get to control two characters at the same time. At first this can sound confusing, but once you start playing and understand how it works it will become easy to do. There is another feature that is new to the series, which is the addition of missions, I am glad that they added these because they help increase the game play time and give you something to still do once you have completed the main game.

It is hard to find many things that are wrong with this game at first glance. Konami really did a good job with this one and made sure that it is practically flawless, the ability to control characters works very smoothly and isn't that difficult. The only thing that I could find difficult about it is the memorization of all the commands to have your partner do different things. Another thing that some may consider a con is the difficulty level. The game has many moments that can be extremely challenging, mainly including how difficult it becomes when boss fight occur. One thing that I didn't really like about the game was how short the main story was in comparison to others, I was able to get the easy ending within 4 hours, and the real ending within 8. But like I said earlier, the missions keep the game going even after you beat it.

This game has tons of replay value; once you beat it you unlock many new things, including new characters, new difficulties, and boss rush modes that let you play all of the bosses again. This isn't all that uncommon to Castlevania these days, but is still a nice little addition. Also, you can unlock new items by beating the boss rush modes, or by beating the hard game under certain conditions. All in all this game a very high replay value for the amount of unlockables.
