The one thing that the 360 really lacks is a real good RPG.  Let’s face it Blue Dragon did not amount up to American gamers’ expectations. The first person shooter will always dominate on the 360, but can Lost Odyssey change gamers’ minds. I’ve been waiting on a good RPG, and I think we got a winner. Can Microsoft fill a much needed void in this day and age?

Playstation has the Final Fantasy series, and a long history of top shelf RPGs. So bring in Hironobu Sakaguchi, Producer of Final Fantasy, and composer Nobuo Uematsu and you got a hit. Kaim is an immortal character who can’t remember his past. Kaim has lived for more than 1000 years and doesn’t know what lies in his future. Throughout his quest he will meet some interesting characters and learn a lot about his past.

The graphics are beautifully done; the quality is almost movie like.  Attention to detail was really important when this game was developed. The character’s models were on point with fluid movements and brilliant colors. The music had an old school Final Fantasy feel to it and was not disappointing. The voice overs were not that bad and complemented the character designs.  I truly enjoyed the storyline and expected nothing less from this game. I see why it took 4 discs to hold this title which can turn into a new epic game.

The game play is truly amazing with the ring system. With timing you can score a perfect hit depending on what attachments you have. The damage can be devastating with the right combination in place. I also noticed magic users don’t deliver a whole lot of physical damage. So you will have to be on your toes with your squad. Immortals will have to link up with their mortal counterparts to learn magic. It’s very simple to-do and the more you fight the more you learn.

RPG fans are breathing a sigh of relief because they finally got a good RPG. The storyline is deep, the battle system is cool and the replay value is high. All in all this game contains the classic elements for an epic RPG.  Who knows?  This may be the new epic story.
