The “Revolver Joint” system used by this new line of figures is amazing. This is by far the most articulate Evangelion figure yet. The movement and balance of the figures have greatly improved from the previous line, where a clear base was needed to keep the figure standing. Granted, it takes a great deal of wiggling and slight adjustments but being able to achieve superb “in-action” poses is well worth the time of setup.

Each figure comes with a good selection of extra hands and weapons. Weapons for EVA-01 include the sword, a prog-knife, machine gun, and hand gun. There are also 6 extra hands, a different head, and the umbilical cable—nothing too different from the accessories available with previous figures. However, the umbilical cable has received an upgrade as it can now bend and hold its shape.

While changing hands I came across a small problem, as some of the hands would not fit onto the joints. The fix is relatively simple, but a first time buyer may not enjoy having to carefully use a drill to make modifications.

The painting is well done, and even on such a small figure, the words “EVA 01 TEST” on its forearm are extremely crisp and readable. The sculpting and attention to detail come as no surprise. The head continues to amaze me though, as the features of EVA-01, its crooked smile and the 3 red lines around its eyes are present with amazing detail. Not that they haven't been present in previous figures, I am just enthralled by the attention to detail I continue to see from Japanese figures. The size is a little discouraging, as the figure is about 5 inches tall, and for the price which ranges from $18 to $22 dollars, the combination may deter some. Other than that, there are really no complaints for this particular figure.
