Logitech G9 Laser Gaming MouseReviewed by Christine Quidim
Nothing screams customization louder than the G9. Right off the bat, it comes with 2 easily interchangeable grip shells to suit your handling. The Wide Load Grip provides a more outspread range for larger hands or for those who are just used to broader holds. Its wide design provides comfort for long hours of overall computing as well as gaming. If the Wide Load feels too bulky, the Precision Grip works best for smaller hands, but its distinct shape is also ideal for sharp movement and targeting. Each grip is composed of different material as well. The Wide Load comes in the traditional satin finish also found on previous Logitech models like the G5 or the MX518. For the longer, intense game sessions, the Precision Grip has a DryGrip coating (like the G7) to keep those sweaty hands slip-free. Which ever way you go, both grips emphasize good hand alignment and comfort. To customize your G9 even further, Logitech offers a downloadable version (No need to make room in your stack(s) of installation discs!) of its highly improved signature software, SetPoint. Although the mouse does not require driver installations, as it is ready to connect and go right out of the box, SetPoint opens the user to the G9’s full potential. The software allows the user to create and fully customize different profiles (assign dpi settings, LED color, and keyboard macros to mention a few) and select the programs specific to those profiles. As a result, the profiles will automatically switch according to which program/game is open or active. The switch is so instant that I found myself a bit thrown off by the sudden change in sensitivity when ‘Alt+Tab’ing’ out of my game for a moment to check email or vice versa. SetPoint also assists in taking advantage of the G9’s most defining feature: onboard memory. Users can store up to 5 profiles in the mouse which can be switched at the touch of a button, so you can take your preferences with you to work, to game tournaments, LAN parties, or to simply show off on your friend’s computer.

With a 3200 dpi laser engine and numerous features for vast customization possibilities, the G9 gets a High Evo Factor hands down. At an MSRP of $99.99, this mouse is more than worth the investment. The overall performance alone is unmatched. The sensitivity adjustments and responsiveness have never been so keen. For the growing multitasker in us all, the G9 makes an impressive tool with its onboard memory and SetPoint management software. Logitech is all about the user on this one. Not only will beginner to pro gamers have even more control over their play, but the concepts of the G9 open the door to safer usage. You practically get a 2-in-1 deal with the interchangeable grips, but more interestingly is the option to switch grips to better suit each user. Along with moderation, this may help prevent discomfort leading to injuries. It would be nice to see further development in additional grips.
