This was an unusual gaming system for me, but it’s free, so what the hey!! Let’s give it a shot.

Ultimate Baseball Online has downloads readily available from the opening page, and a really easy guide to setting up.  It sets up rather quickly and without  being too vague, so a definite plus!!

The character customization goes along rather quickly, and you’re not limited to “boys only”, also a plus!!  Hmm, you can’t pick fat people though!!

As soon as I had my character rolled out, I hit the locker room then looked around. There is friendly chatter going on outside the various rooms/games.  I was invited to join other newbies in pick-up games.

I personally preferred the hitting practice for checking out the game interface.  The hitting setup was something I worked out pretty fast, and it was fun.  The pitchers you’re up against are pretty cool, and have a lot of variety on the pitches.

Pitching practice was a lot trickier, and frankly I never quite mastered the hang of how to get a curve or a slider over to the zone where I wanted.  But, it’s still fun!! You won’t always find a lot of chatty people, but there are those who will help you out and guide you around.

Overall, it was a good experience. Occasional bandwidth issues were all that interfered with my ability to get things done.

I give the game an Evolution factor of High.  It’s playable, it’s free, its an MMO.  You can be on your own in the batting/pitching/fielding practice, or you can go interact with others.  Provided it gets word of mouth exposure it’s going to do quite well.  There’s a good deal of challenge offered in it.  I won’t say that I became a pro baseball player on it, but it kept me involved and absorbed while I was playing.

So, overall? THUMBS UP!!!
