Now when I was given the demo of El Matador, I had high hopes for the game. The cover showed a gritty man in black leather with his back against the wall, ready to do some major damage against what appears to be black ops units in the background, and I could not wait to open up the game and play. It was when game play started that I found myself disappointed. Instead of the cool black ops leather jacket, our hero starts off wearing a green camouflaged uniform.
The first mission starts the player off in a jungle to take down some unknown terrorist. The background of this level seems to radiate a dull green on all its images and makes the images and game play look less than cool. The game play is not a total loss, but it does possess a high learning curve that may tick off the new gamers to first-person shooters and have old pros saving after almost every encounter. Although game features the addition of a bullet time effect, it is not enough of a save to recommend this game.
I hate to admit, but in all honesty, this game is neither worth the buy nor the time and effort to play it. EL Matador leaves you wishing that it was a better game than it is. It's the type of game that one plays when there is no other game in the house, but going out is not an option either. I was hoping for a cool, tough as nails Latino hero, and instead I got a soldier whose face is covered in shade and is as appealing as a bad 80s action hero. With no depth to the story, and mediocre game play, all I can say about El Matador is that it's an EL waste of time.
