At the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Paris, Diablo 3 was announced.
“Two decades have passed since the demonic denizens, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, wandered the world of Sanctuary in a vicious rampage to shackle humanity into unholy slavery. Yet for those who battled the Prime Evils directly, the memory fades slowly and the wounds of the soul still burn.

When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram's Cathedral seeking clues to new stirrings of evil, a comet from the heavens strikes the very ground where Diablo once entered the world.  The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself.”

The Blizzard site has a new link to the official Diablo 3 website http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/index.xml  with brief explanation of the game and information on the new character classes and worlds.  It looks like the old favorites such as Deckard Cain return with a host of new enemies and of course Diablo, Memphisto and Baal. Fans will revisit Sanctuary and explore new areas of Tristram. But don’t get too excited for a 2008 release date.  Blizzard may finally have some solid proof that Diablo 3 does exist but as the site quotes “It's too early to estimate Diablo 3's release date. As with all Blizzard Entertainment games, our goal is to create a game that is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible. We intend to take as much time developing Diablo III as is necessary to ensure the game meets our own high expectations and those of our players.”
