Pirates of the Caribbean : At World's EndReviewed by Alicia Glass
For a trilogy culmination movie, Pirates 3 is actually quite good at wrapping up most things and tossing in surprise twists, sudden turnabouts, and cheering from the audience. Some of it is entirely predictable; a lot of it is not. And a fair amount of the movie is simply inexplicable until close to the end, so pay close attention and watch the first two movies before going to see it. A lot of detail was put into cultural considerations for this movie, something of which I am greatly enamored. The Pirate Lords meeting had pirates from several different cultures and walks of life, proving that wherever there is seas and loot to be had, there will be pirates. There was even a female geisha pirate from Japan; that was awesome. The great Goddess of the Sea, Calypso, bound in human form as the witch Tia Dalma, is finally released from her prison, and her wrath scores the seas in the final battle against Beckett. To understand the great love-hate affair that went on between Calypso and Davey Jones and see where it led them and all their folk, is a fine thing to watch. And yes yes, watching Johnny Depp run around as Jack Sparrow is all well and good, but don’t forget the other fine characters and actors. Chow Yun-Fat as Captain Sao Feng was absolutely drool-worthy, and played his character to the hilt and beyond.

A fine effort for the third movie in a trilogy, better than most, makes Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End a must-have for any DVD collection!
