Chris Johnson, also known as Vegas magician Frank Cadillac, can see two minutes into his own future. The FBI wants to use that talent to prevent a nuclear attack on Los Angeles.

The first major scene involves poor Chris, with his extra-sensory powers, doing in less than five minutes: preventing the deaths of two people, stopping a robber in a casino, avoiding the casino authorities, avoiding the police entirely, changing his appearance, and stealing a silver Porsche!  Johnson is a completely understandable character who just wants to be left alone. But the FBI needs him to prevent a major catastrophe, and they’re not giving up. Then Chris Johnson meets Liz (played by Jessica Biel), the pivotal woman who’s going to help him by enhancing his powers somehow (not to mention a love interest). Unortunately, he accidentally involves her in the mess by running away with her. The FBI, and now the major bad guys with the nuke, are all hot on Chris and Liz’s trail, and will stop at nothing to catch the Vegas magician.

This is a wonderful movie with a relatively simple plot, likeable characters, and enjoyable “oh!” moments. There’s plenty of cinematography, but that’s mainly to further the plotline.  The ending is not what you would expect from a movie like this. Considering it IS a movie about seeing the future and changing it, of course they had to leave it open for a sequel. The manner in which the film-makers left the ending hanging though, was quite enjoyable and even I didn’t see it coming.

NEXT isn’t a huge blockbuster, but it IS worth a look, or three!
