Screencap from Eragon. Courtesy 20th Century Fox.
What was a simple farm boy changes forever as Eragon finds a dragon's egg in the backwoods of his homeland, leading him to his destiny as a Dragon Rider against the evil Shade Durza and the King behind him, Galbatorix.

Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich in the same movie! Oh yes. Forgive me that one squeal of fandom, moving right along.

Eragon really isn't what you might expect. Sure, there are parts that are entirely predictable. But the characters are so well drawn and played; I couldn't help but cheer for them! The dragon Saphira was portrayed in an unusual serpentine-bird kind of way, which I thought was marvelous and inventive. The costumes were simply outstanding, each piece tailored to the character wearing it, and many with interesting little symbolism carefully snuck in. Each character is given his or her own motives and separate personality, history and background, easily explained and understood with but a few simple scenes; that takes a lot of doing and they pulled it off well. Rather than go on about the plot and sneak in spoilers, I'll simply say, go see this movie. It has something for everyone, adult and child alike, all wound up together in the first part of a fantastic fantasy adventure!

Evo Factor is HIGH. Eragon is worth the theatre prices, more than once even.
