Clerks 2Reviewed by Alicia Glass
From misfitted 20-somethings in the original Clerks, to outcast 30-somethings in Clerks 2, Dante and Randall, Jay and Silent Bob are still slackers who dispense their vast wisdom and experience to any and all customers—whether they want it or not. But now, Dante is finally moving on with his life, and where will that leave everyone else?
It's ten years later, and they're the same. Granted, the QuickStop has burned and Dante and Randall now work at Mooby's fast food restaurant. Jay and Silent Bob still hang out in front of wherever Dante and Randall work selling weed, but now they've found Jesus. Dante himself has a fiancé, gleefully sporting the Mrs. Hicks t-shirt and squealing about their life after New Jersey , where Emma's daddy has gotten Dante a job at his car wash. Randall's bummed about his hetero-lifemate leaving him, and is beginning to latch onto the pathetically young and sad Elias, another employee of Mooby's. And then there's Becky, manager of Mooby's, with whom Dante shared one late night of enjoyment, only to find herself pregnant. The humor is still crude, the rants still destined to piss people off, and there's even a musical number this time. However, the movie is also kind, laugh-out-loud funny, and completely relate-able. We've all been like that at least once in our lives. And the ending is a wonderfully portrayed ideal of ‘we've come full circle, to where we should be'. Trailer: |
