Trying to sate a sweet tooth, this ice cream was offered to me by my cousin. At first glance, it looks like a version of an ice cream sandwich, but with different ingredients substituting for the layers. The Monaka has an outside crust made of wafers and an inside filling of vanilla ice cream. Inbetween the two sides of the Monaka “sandwich,” there is a layer of semi-sweet chocolate and sometimes peanuts to complete it.
The Monaka has a lot of different textures once it's bitten into. With each bite, the wafer crust melts into the creamy ice cream and there's even a little crunch with the chocolate middle. The flavors compliment each other too. The Monaka doesn't get too sweet, since the wafer crust and the semi-sweet chocolate dim down the richness of the ice cream. The only downfall is that once the two different pieces of the Monaka separate, you will have a messy dessert and sticky hands afterwards

Each Monaka is about a dollar fifty per sandwich, and puts our regular ice cream sandwiches to shame. The balanced richness and the larger size will have you going back for more.
