Von Dutch energy drink from the Dutch Energy company of Las Vegas brings a high-octane 16 oz. can of pure energy to consumers. The can itself is an impressive sight, complete with an intensely designed chassis of multicolored skulls and a floating optical with wings. Cleverly etched in red and black, almost boasting its presence, the Von Dutch name on the can leaves no doubt that it is an "energy drink." Before a long night of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter on the XB360, this drink was my choice to get the online shooter juices flowing.
As artistically impressive as the can was, the taste of the frothy beverage left quite a bit to be desired. The first ice-cold gulp went down like a champion, watering the eyes and tasting of black licorice. Not bad if you're a black licorice fan. I myself am not. After that initial taste is where things became a little strange. The second and third gulps began to rear an ugly aftertaste. The closest similarity would be to that of aluminum foil mixed with the scent of a burnt match, an acquired taste to say the least. I could tell that as the beverage approached room temperature, the stronger the aftertaste became. I finished consuming my beverage and began to feel its effects shortly thereafter.
The energy kick was definitely a major league punt. I felt revived, alert, and began shooting my online comrades with reckless abandon. I felt no signs of bubble gut like I do with other energy drinks, so that was definitely a positive.
Von Dutch Energy Drink is definitely an acquired taste, yet it provides an excellent source of random energy and excitement. I would have to give the beverage a Low Evolution Factor as there are so many different kinds of energy formulas out there, and this is just another to add to the collection. I recommend this drink to any fans of black licorice or perhaps even fire eaters. All kidding aside, this drink definitely provides an interesting energetic experience; so go ahead, be a rebel, and give it a try.
