Did you ever wonder if the energy drink fad would ever end? The Thorpedo Foods Company, a joint venture by Austrailian Olympic medalist Ian Thorpe and the So Natural Foods Company, released a new line of sports waters for sale in the United States.

Thorpedo Ultra Low GI waters are available in four flavors: Berry , Orange , Tropical, and Lemon-Lime. The claim to fame for these beverages is the low GI or Glycemic Index. The Glycemic Index (GI) of a food is a measure of how quickly it will raise the blood glucose (blood sugar) level after it is eaten. Foods with a high GI score are digested quickly and release glucose into the blood quite rapidly. Foods with a low GI score are more slowly digested and release glucose more gradually into the bloodstream and over a longer period of time. That being said, Thorpedo waters are a perfect addition to any active person's lifestyle, especially kids.

Berry was the sweetest flavor of the selections although it had a very strange medicine like aftertaste. The coloring reminded me of some instant powdered beverage in a package. Lemon-Lime and Tropical have a clean finish but a weak start. The flavors are barely noticeable. The colors of the two are very similar. The orange flavor contains a hint of orange but not overpowering like a juice.

These sports waters seem to be more rehashes of the same old thing but with less complicated packaging. As for the health benefits, I have to try this product out a bit more before I can endorse any of its health benefits. If you want a change from Gatorade or PowerAde this is product is different but not special.
