The Wizard of Oz is a familiar story that is often referenced in various forms of media, but Dorothy takes the original story in a whole different direction. In this new tale, Dorothy is a loud-mouthed teenager who finds herself being swept away from her boring life and into a techno-futuristic Oz. Toto has been replaced by a robotic pet, and the familiar characters are now edgy sci-fi creatures, producing a visual feast for the reader. The stories are presented in photographs with intense CG altering and comic-style layout and dialogue boxes. All this makes for a very different story.
I've never seen a comic quite like Dorothy. The mix of photography and illustration is fantastic. The comics are well printed with stunning colors, and the layout makes for a fast-paced feel. If you've ever listened to Pink Floyd while watching the original Wizard of Oz, then this is for you. Dorothy is relatable and often deals with things as most teenagers would. Don't be shocked by the language or drug references; Dorothy has landed in the 21st century. To the comic industry, a storm is coming!!
