Top 10 - Volume 1 (Issues 1 - 7)Reviewed by Russell Purdy
Top 10 is a great piece of writing coupled with perfectly suited art. Take a dash of Law & Order and add liberal amounts of well-planned science-fiction and you have Top 10: the stories of the men, women, clones, animals, aliens, and robots that wear the shield in Neopolis. Alan Moore has the ability to create really enjoyable dialogue connecting with well-crafted characters that don't slip out of character in their actions and comments, which I truly appreciate. The universe that was made for Top 10 is also done quite well, for it does not leave out anything that may have happened previously while explained in things that happen quite succinctly later on. Issues 1-7 have a good number of interesting little stories with some wonderful twists. One issue tells the investigation of a serial killer with a taste for prostitute heads, and more importantly, who can sever the heads at a molecular level. Another story in Top 10 is about an investigation into a drug-running that turns deadly for most of the people involved. The fact that no normal person can take the drug due to its extreme radioactivity calls into question the actual route of the investigation. Sample (Click image to enlarge):

Overall, I enjoyed the entire concept of Top 10 and the artistic placement of some very obvious and very humorous characters from sci-fi and fantasy. You'll see them and you'll chuckle to yourself just as I did.
