Mahoraba Heartful DaysReviewed by Sean McDonald
Shiratori Ryuushi is an eighteen-year-old art student about to start his first year at a private art school in Tokyo. Upon his arrival in Tokyo , Shiratori checks into his new apartment at Narutaki Sou and discovers the super cute and innocent landlady, Aoba Kozue. For the moment he is completely accepting of his new home, but things go from good to bad when Shiratori finds that all the tenants of Narutaki Sou are complete weirdoes. Things can't be all that bad as long as Aoba is there with him, right? Wrong, it turns out that Aoba has a big secret. When surprised or overwhelmed in any way, Aoba changes into one of her four alter egos, each one more troublesome than the last. How will Shiratori be able to handle all this? The first of Aoba's alter egos, Saki, appears after Aoba is surprised. Although she tries to act tough and is very aggressive, Saki is truly kind on the inside. Second is Nanakothe, a six-year-old version of Aoba who usually appears when Aoba is embarrassed. Chiyuri, the third alter ego, is basically the fashion police all on her own. She appears when Aoba is frightened. The last is Natsume, a very shy girl who likes to keep to herself but is very good at magic. She appears when Aoba is sad. Every time Aoba changes, she has no recollection of anything that happened. Shiratori and the others try to keep this a secret from Aoba. Probably the only thing that I didn't like about the series was the romantic component. It seemed as though I had seen the formula before in other romantic anime.

I give Mahoraba Heartful Days a Medium Evolution Factor because the plot is funny as well as the characters. Each character has a unique personality including the story behind his/her behavior. Even though the comedy portion of the series is very original, the romantic part was lacking.
