Disgaea

Genre: Action-fantasy, Comedy
Review Rating: 8 out of 10

The Disgaea anime looks like it will closely follow the game on which it is based ( Disgaea: Hour of Darkness ). The main character Laharl has been sleeping for two years, and when he finally wakes up, finds out that his father (King Krichevskoy, the ruler of the Netherworld) is dead. From there Laharl is joined by the rest of the cast, which includes many from the game like Etna (Laharl's subordinate with her own agenda) and Flonne (the Angel trainee).

Anyone that likes the game will really like the way the anime looks. Not only do the characters look exactly the same, but the battle scenes also take place in areas that are similar to the game with better graphics. The different attacks have better graphics as well, and the monsters are more menacing. The anime even has the same voice actors as the Japanese version of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for the main characters (Laharl, Etna and Flonne).

It will be interesting to see how closely Disgaea follows the game and if the characters develop further, but variation seems unlikely since the anime is only 12 episodes long. Regardless, it's always good to have more of the things you like, so definitely look forward to this anime!
